The NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence on Achieving the Tobacco Endgame and the Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Universitas Indonesia (UI) signed an International Collaboration Roadmap agreement on 22 June 2023. This roadmap serves as the foundation of future agreement/understanding between both institutions.

In a joint meeting, representatives of UQ and FKM UI discussed the potential for collaboration in education and research on tobacco control topics over the next five years (2023-2028). The roadmap agreement was signed by Prof Coral Gartner, Director of the Tobacco Endgame CRE at The University of Queensland and Dr Ir Asih Setiarini, Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs at FKM UI. The Manager of Collaboration, Alumni Relations and Ventures, Indri Hapsari Susilowati, SKM, MKKK, PhD, and Dr Al Asyary Upe, Editor in Chief of Kesmas: National Public Health Journal, also attended the meeting. He joined Prof Coral Gartner's team at The University of Queensland as a Visiting Academic for the month of June 2023.

The collaboration roadmap and five-year plan (2023-2028) include the following activities:

1. explore the potential for joint research supervision (Undergraduate, Master and PhD students) on tobacco control topics

2. joint applications to the International Student Mobility Program (UI), and Global Partnership Seed Funding (UQ)

3. develop collaborative research projects and grant applications on topics of joint interest

4. joint advocacy activities

5. collaborate in flexible agreement in the Kesmas journal Editorial Board Team of FKM UI

Early collaboration success has been achieved with Dr Kylie Morphett and team securing UQ Global Strategy and Partnerships Seed Funding for their “Addressing the global environmental impact of cigarette butt litter” project commencing 2024.

The Tobacco Endgame CRE is looking forward to further productive research collaborations with FKM UI.
