Researcher biography

Dr Kate Fairweather is a Senior Research Fellow in the College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University. Her research has a broad scope, but the uniting elements typically revolve around Mental Health and Wellbeing. Specifically, Kate has expertise in psychiatric epidemiology (including biometric - twins, and longitudinal modelling) largely focuses on the identification of risk factors for mental health conditions, especially in the domains of suicidality, eating disorders, anxiety and depression, and addiction. These disorders are well documented to share comorbidities and heritability. Kate’s career is invested in successful targeting factors both underpinning generation and exacerbation of mental illness.  In addition, she has experience with project management, including a large NHRMC clinical RCT, and other vulnerable populations.
