Researcher biography

Dr Al Asyary is an environmental and public health lecturer and scientist at the Department of Environmental Health, Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia. His research interests include environmental epidemiology, air quality/pollution, especially tobacco smoke, infectious disease, environmental health information systems, mass gathering, and environmental-based disease. Since 2016, Dr Asyary has been a Principal Investigator on several research projects that address significant tobacco control and public health issues, including Respiratory health impacts to environmental tobacco smoke on children (2023); Spatial analysis of cigarette-butt litter in Indonesian environment: Increasing tobacco excise for environment (2022); Stunting and households cigarette's smokes: Initiate smoke-free regulation in environmental living places (2022); Implementation of Whistle-blowing System for Smoke-Free Environments in UI Environment (2020).

Since 2018, Dr Asyary has published more than 52 papers in scientific journals, books, and policies. His research has successfully supported the development and implementation of smoke free policy and resulted in a new law product called Tegal’s Regent City Regional Regulation (Peraturan Bupati/Perbup) about smoke-free policy.
