A growing number of countries, primarily high-income nations in Europe, North America, and Oceania, are adopting tobacco endgame targets to reduce smoking prevalence to near-zero levels by a certain year. These countries typically have advanced tobacco control measures in place and smoking rates ranging between 10% and 25%. However, several low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa, Latin America, and South Asia, may also be well-positioned to pursue a tobacco endgame due to their already low smoking rates and strong tobacco control policies. Moreover, countries in the early stages of the tobacco epidemic, notably in Africa and Latin America, have a unique opportunity to prevent widespread tobacco use by implementing rigorous control measures early on. In this webinar, Dr Yvette van der Eijk will discuss the considerations of what makes a country ‘endgame ready’, and for making the global tobacco endgame more inclusive.
