Health warning labels (HWL) on cigarette packages are an important and cost-effective means of communicating the health risks of smoking to the public. Between 2002 and 2022, there have been three relevant HWL changes in Canada, four in England, and two in Australia, while there were no changes in the USA. Using data from the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Survey (ITC 4-Country Survey), this presentation will describe patterns in the impact of HWLs over a period of 20 years in four countries – the US, Canada, England, and Australia. The aim is to fill in gaps in the previous publications, examine overall trends, and assess the extent to which HWLs have a persistent effect.
