The International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project has been following rolling cohorts of smokers since 2002. In recent years it has had an increased focus on alternative nicotine products, first vaping, but now extended to heated tobacco and low-toxicant oral forms.  We have also been asking questions about possible futures.  In this presentation, I will cover some of our recent findings, some recently published and others still unpublished to provide a picture of some of the complexities of moving to a smoking-free future.  Issues covered include the identification of a subset of smokers who appear reluctant to change, limits of the acceptability of alternative products and misconceptions about nicotine.  Given the focus of the ITC project, the talk focusses on current smokers and recent ex-smokers.
